ANNUAL EXAMS
GERIATRIC SUPPORT
Just as annual visits to the doctor are important for people, routine veterinary care is critical to the long-term health of your pet.Our familiarity with your pet, routine blood panels and health screens, along with regular weigh-ins, listening to the heart and lungs, and examining ears, eyes and even the pads of your pet's paws can help keep your furry friend in tip-top shape.

Our familiarity with your pet, routine blood panels and health screens, along with regular weigh-ins, listening to the heart and lungs, and examining ears, eyes and even the pads of your pet's paws can help keep your furry friend in tip-top shape.
The affection we have for our pets becomes more intense as we watch them age right before our eyes. And as they begin to reach their later years we have to take special precautions to optimize their health and well being. Endeavor to, each day, engage your pet in loving interactions and embrace their needs of safety and support. We provide geriatric support in healing, as well as help during the dying process.
HOMEOPATHY
WILDLIFE REHAB
By definition, homeopathy means "treating like with like." Homeopathic remedies are made from herbs, animal products and minerals. There are more than 2,000 remedies. To find the correct one, Dr. Lori Leonard examines a patient's physical symptoms, mental symptoms, food and environmental preferences and what worsens or improves the animal's condition. When the correct remedy is given, acute conditions begin to dissipate within minutes.
In response to the increased need for medical care of injured, ill and orphaned wildlife, we volunteer our servicesto help wild animals throughout Virginia.

SAFE DRUG-FREE MODALITIES
Animals are natural Herbalists, often eating particular herbs in the garden when needed. Herbs and flower essences can be used to treat a wide range of conditions. Flower essences provide support for mental/emotional and physical situations. Holistic animal therapy involves treating the whole animal, rather than just suppressing the symptoms, to improve overall health, well-being and longevity. Animals respond well to natural therapies and there are no undesirable side effects.
REIKI
What is Reiki? Reiki (pronounced RAY-key) means “universal life energy.” Reiki is a gentle, yet powerful holistic healing method for body, mind, and spirit. Reiki heals at physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual levels and complements both conventional and alternative healing methods. Reiki heals the origin of health issues, promotes energetic harmony and well-being and can relieve and reduce symptoms and pain. It accelerates healing of illnesses and injuries and promotes relaxation and stress relief in animals.
ANIMAL COMMUNICATION
Animal communication helps you gain a deeper understanding of your animal companion companion that results in a more harmonious relationship with each other. Animals need to be heard and understood and sometimes just hearing their concerns will change a difficult situation. Together you can work out a solution to almost anything.
About Doc Lori
Doc Lori Leonard has had a fascination and deep connection with animals since her childhood. She was born in California and moved around the U.S. with her family. At Purdue University, Doc Lori completed her B.S. in Agronomy in 1978. In 1979, she joined the United States Air Force and lived within the U.S. and abroad. After 24 1/2 years of service, she retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. She moved to Indiana from the former West Germany in 1984, and was accepted to the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine, where she began her studies in 1985, graduating in 1989 with her D.V.M. degree. Her work experience is varied and includes being a research laboratory technician in pharmacology & toxicology at Purdue Universitys School of Pharmacy; working at Columbian Park Zoo in Lafayette, IN; instructing first-year veterinary students in anatomy at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine; and answering animal questions with her colleague Dr. Tom Fore on television from Richmond, VA. Seeing an opportunity for advancement, Dr. Leonard relocated to Concord, VA in the fall of 1992 to create Concord Veterinary Services, a veterinary clinic which she has operated since February 15, 1993. Her clinic is a safe, happy place for furries and their people. Many of her patients like it there so much that they resist going back home! With an open floor plan, plenty of natural daylight and greenery, her clinic is a welcome relief from the hurriedness of the day outside of the clinic doors. Two clinic residents, Bud E the cat and Ms Dove the collared dove provide another dimension to the cheerful atmosphere at CVS. Doc Lori's focus is on the quality of life of each individual animal. She uses whatever method she feels is appropriate for each individual case (see other page for descriptions), such as homeopathy, Green Hope Farm flower essences, Reiki, and animal communication to provide comfort and wellness for the patient. Dr. Leonard engages the guardians of the animals so that they will be partners with her in the care of their beloved companions. The trend at her practice is to use fewer conventional drugs and vaccines for preventing disease in preference to alternative therapies for preserving or re-capturing wellness. She provides traditional examination, surgery, radiology, dentistry, internal medicine, ophthalmology, cardiology, orthopedic and geriatric medicine, and has access to board-certified specialists in many fields for referral. For many years, Lenore Holbrook, a licensed marriage and family therapist, and Doc Lori provided grief counseling for an people who'd lost their animal companions at no charge to the public. Dr. Leonard has completed two years of a three-year professional course in homeopathy for vets in England, where she has earned her LFHom(Vet) and looks forward to earning her MFHom(Vet) credential in Fall 2010. She is a member of Reserve Officers Association, American Legion, Indiana Academy of Sciences, Virginia Society of Ornithology, Central Virginia Master Naturalists, Academy of Veterinary Homeopathy, British Association of Homeopathic Veterinary Surgeons, and IUCN, The World Conservation Union. She has published and presented research papers and given animal-related talks to the public. In addition, Dr. Leonard loves to sing and has performed solo work and has been a member of several choruses, most recently Facination in Lynchburg, VA. Her photography has been displayed in nationally juried shows through the years. Doc enjoys music, photography, and writing, and currently shares her home with four domestic cats.
